Abstract:		 An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the capping of a mineshaft. The site contained the disused remains of a mineshaft that probably dated from the early 19th century. Cartographic evidence showed that it was in use by 1837 but had fallen into disuse by 1852 when it was capped or filled using ashy soil. In the process this soil had became spread about the site.
