Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on the site of a proposed office and residential development. Three trenches were fully investigated with the dual purpose of assessing any archaeological features and defining the nature of the petrol tanks buried across the site. All of the trenches revealed an undisturbed peat horizon associated with the flooding of the Southwark area in pre-Roman times. Trench 2 also revealed a large pit of possible early medieval date. Petrol tanks were located in two of the trenches. [Au(abr)] |
