Abstract: |
The evaluation, consisting of the excavation of ten test pits, was undertaken in response to a condition upon planning permission for the residential redevelopment of the site. Alluvial clays and peat were located, with the peat deposits provisionally believed to date to the Bronze Age or earlier. The principal result of the evaluation was to identify the presence of a creek inlet in the eastern part of the site, and the occurrence of yew trees (including a tree hollow) in the peat. No archaeological features were identified, and no cultural material (lithics, ceramics or worked timber) was present. [Au(adp)] |
