Abstract: |
Salvage recording was undertaken during the construction of Trimpley Top Reservoir and Associated Mains. The project formed part of a series of similar projects being undertaken by the County Archaeological Service on behalf of Severn Trent Water Ltd. during the construction of a major new water main running north to south across the county. Significant deposits were excavated at one site, which was previously unknown, and artefacts were recovered from three of the four fields observed along the route of the pipeline. The one previously unknown site discovered on the route of this pipeline was a pit located in a field (HWCM 20621) to the south-east of a house known as "The Guildings". This pit contained a quantity of medieval pottery dated to the 12th-13th century, and was located within the royal forest of Feckenham, possibly associated with the activities of charcoal burners who lived there.[AIP] |
