Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land ear-marked for a new bypass and road widening scheme between West Malling and Leybourne, near Maidstone, Kent. A total of 280 evaluation trenches were excavated at seven different locations along the corridor of the proposed route. Ditch systems dating from the Bronze and Iron Ages were found in Zone A, as well as the outer margins of a possible Late Iron Age settlement. Elsewhere along the corridor, medieval ditch systems, Late Iron Age ditches and an Anglo-Saxon sunken floored building were found near the junction of the A20/A228 in Zone E. [Au(abr)] |
