Abstract: |
Desk-based assessment showed that the proposal site had been occupied since at least the 12th century with St Thomas Street being a densely populated part of the new suburbs south of the River Avon, which were protected by the building of fthe Portwall in the early 13th century. Victoria Street was laid out in the 1860's involving removal of some of the properites on the east side of St Thomas Street, which according to map evidence of 1581 and 1673, was occupied by houses and associated outbuildings. These properties were subsequently either partly or totally rebuilt in the 1870's. [Auths words] |
