Abstract: |
Archaeological fieldwalking and metal detecting surveys were undertaken of the proposed residential development area. Three dispersed worked flints represented a low level of prehistoric activity at the proposed development site. A significant concentration of late 2nd to late 4th century Roman material coincided with the potential settlement remains and ancient field systems identified by a geophysical survey in the north west corner of the survey area. Medieval artefacts, scattered thinly throughout the survey area, were likely to have been introduced to the ploughsoil through manuring. The finds appeared to be slightly more dense in the western portion of the survey area, suggesting that they had emanated from a now deserted medieval village site near Quarrenden.. [Au(abr)] |
