Abstract:
<summary>An archaeological field evaluation on the gravel terrace of the River Anker at Kisses' Barn Farm, Polesworth, was undertaken in conjunction with a gravel extraction application. Limited discontinuous use of the site was evident over a 6,000-7,000 year period from the later Mesolithic to the Iron Age. Initial fieldwalking revealed extensive evidence of later Mesolithic activity across the site. Detailed gridded survey and trial-trenching outlined two separate flint clusters indicating temporary camp sites. On the west side of the site, a small pit or post hole which contained Peterborough-type pottery indicated Neolithic use of the land. The post hole was associated with a small ring-ditch which may have been contemporary. The paucity of finds (especially flints) from the ditch and the surrounding area suggested a ritual rather than occupational use. Evidence of Bronze Age activity was restricted to a single dubious sherd from the centre of the site. Sporadic Iron Age activity was encountered across the site, with a possible occupation area on the eastern side. {italon}?Au/?Au(abr)/?Au(adp){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} WA5760
