Abstract: |
It was clear both from cartographic sources and that from the SMR (which detailed the excavations which had taken place along St Thomas Street), that the site lay within the historic core of Oxford and, more specifically, within the suburbs which developed in medieval times. There was no evidence to suggest that deep and extensive truncation of archaeologically relevant levels had taken place and, given the generally low-lying setting of the area, there would have been a strong tendency to build-up levels by dumping prior to redevelopment.
