Abstract: |
Monitoring of foundation trenches for a proposed garage revealed a deep garden soil. The soil contained a small quantity of pottery dating to the late 18th/19th century, which accorded with the earliest occupation of the adjacent cottage. The garden soil had been reworked over the 20th century. Considerable ground disturbance, resulting from the original construction and recent removal of a former garage and associated concrete slab was recorded. Monitoring of foundation trenches for a proposed house extension revealed the same garden soil, along with a 19th century well, a former wall footing and evidence for the removal of a large tree.
