Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during works at a development site, where it was anticipated that data relating to early and later post-medieval mill structures would be recovered. The existence of a medieval mill at the site had been documented. During the watching brief, no archaeological remains were observed. The lack of archaeological evidence had resulted from extensive disturbance of the site in the modern period. An archaeo-environmental examination of peat deposits was undertaken, to assess their potential for detailed palynological analysis, but it was found that such an analysis would not be justified. The results were nevertheless of some value in demonstrating the change in the site's environment, perhaps from the Bronze Age onwards. [AIP] |
