Abstract: |
<summary>Excavation in advance of a housing development was expected to reveal evidence for the medieval village of Hill or Hill Farm. The excavation identified five main phases. The first and earliest consisted of the natural subsoils, which were used to form a gravel road surface in the second phase. The next phase consisted of limited occupation evidence, including a cobbled surface of possible medieval date and an isolated post hole. The fourth phase consisted of layers associated with the disuse of the road after it was realigned to the east. The fifth and latest phase consisted of 19th and 20th century features. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SOU 490 (Southampton City Council, Heritage Management investigation identification no) |
