Abstract: |
The assessment site had been primarily devoted to industrial usage from the early 19th century, prior to which it appeared to have been used for limited residential use and open park and farmland. Warehouses, factories and manufacturing plants previously, and currently, occupied the subject site, industries that had created a large amount of waste material. In the mid-19th century the Great Northern Railway constructed a track by the 'cut and cover' method which bisected the southwest corner of the site. The London Underground was developed in the area in the mid 20th century, and both the Victoria and Northern Lines ran underneath the site. [Au(abr)] |
