Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in relation to the proposed redevelopment of the site. The site did not include any Listed Buildings or SAMs. Nor did it lie within an Archaeological Priority Area as defined within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Unitary Development Plan. The site may have contained potential archaeological deposits consisting of prehistoric peat deposits and medieval and post-medieval embankments. The prehistoric peat deposits may have contained the well preserved organic remains of prehistoric human activity and structures in what was then a marshland habitat. Archaeological monitoring of any future site geotechnical investigations would be a cost-effective way of determining if such archaeological deposits were on the site and provide the basis for the scope and cost of any resultant mitigation strategy.
