Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, consisting of the excavation 13 trial trenches, was undertaken in advance of proposals to extract minerals. The evaluation revealed archaeological features (principal ditches and pits) in the southern sector of the site. The features represented a continuation of the archaeological record in the immediately adjacent areas. In particular the pits in Trench 11, F1008 an F1010, contained 5th/4th centruy-1st BC pottery directly comparable to the Fabrics B and C recorded during the excavation of Iron Age features in Area B. Somewhat surprisingly given the projected course, the palaeochannel sampled in Area D was not recorded. [Au(adp)] |
