Abstract: |
Observation of topsoil stripping was undertaken in the medieval village. No medieval features were seen, although the site was quite churned up and no early finds were recovered. A second visit to the site was made following the discovery of a wall and a well on top of the hill to the rear of the property, south-east of the church. An area had been stripped and terraced down revealing a very deep, stone-lined well. About 6 metres to the north of the well was a discontinuous line of ironstone rubble blocks. This probably marked the line of a wall running approximately east-west. The topsoil over these features was a dark brown clay loam containing 17th-19th century material. [Au] |
