Abstract: |
The building recording and watching brief was undertaken during the renovation of the existing buildings of Tortworth Court, most of which were constructed between 1849 and 1852. The house and grounds represented a well-preserved and little altered example of a large High Victorian house in its planned setting. Architectually and historically it was of regional importance because of the limited alterations made to it, rather than of the qualities of Samuel Teulon as an architect. During the watching brief, no archaeological deposits predating the construction of the 19th century building were encountered.[Au(abr)] |
