Abstract: |
A trial trench evaluation in advance of the design of a proposed development of a new education building and Archimedean screw within the grounds of the museum of papermaking, revealed no structural remains or other features. Post-medieval pottery was recovered from the topsoil. A buried soil from which slag was recovered was recorded across part of the site. Cartographic evidence demonstrated that a mill had occupied the study area from at least the mid 18th century. The buildings currently occupying the site were from the 18th century and incorporated both earlier remains and later alterations. Medieval sites were found within the vicinity of the site.
