Abstract: |
Five trenches were mechanically excavated, revealing remains dating from the late Bronze Age-early Iron Age and medieval periods through to the 19th century. Two parallel ditches of late Bronze Age to early Iron Age date appeared to follow the edge of a relict watercourse, while four possible contemporary spreads of flint were also located. These may represent a degraded 'burnt mound'. A medieval ditch along with a single rubbish pit also of medieval origin that may have been re-used as a cess pit. Various post-medieval/modern remains probably related to the 19th century diversion of the River Lavant to a contemporary piggery were also found. [Au(abr)] |
