Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken of the route of the proposed 14.2km long high-pressure gas pipeline. Two hundred and thirty-three archaeological sites were identified within and just beyond the study corridor. Of these, twenty-one were located in the path of the proposed pipeline, and another one may have been directly affected. All of the sites studied were placed into one of five categories, ranging in significance from SAM (Category A) to single find spots (Category E). Some of the sites currently crossed by the pipeline could be largely or completely avoided by minor re-routes. If this was not possible, they, along with those which could not be avoided, should be re-evaluated at the end of the Stage 3 (field Survey) investigations. [Au(adp)] |
