Abstract: |
The assessment identified that the surrounding area had produced substantial evidence for multi-period settlement from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval periods. The earliest cartographic evidence revealed that the current site lay just beyond the southern limits of the early High Street settlement, appearing to be land associated either with the church or Manor Farm, both of which lay directly to the north of the development site. The later Tithe Apportionment document recorded the land as belonging to 'Her Majesty', and being primarily arable and meadowland. The OS map indicated that the site remained undeveloped until the late 19th century. [Au(adp)] |
