Abstract: |
A fluxgate gradiometer survey was carried out on an area where a scheme of housing development was proposed. The geophysical survey was carried out immediately after demolition clearance of a dairy farm and rough vegetation. A quantity of debris (including ferrous litter) was present in the topsoil at the time of survey. Results obtained by the survey indicated very high concentrations of ferrous and brick debris on and beneath the ground surface, with the highest densities broadly correlating with the location of former buildings and silage pits. Geophysical anomalies arising from these materials may have prevented the detection on this site of more subtle anomalies of possible archaeological interest. [Au(abr)] |
