Abstract: |
The report assessed the archaeological impact of redevelopment of 'Project Millwall, Isle of Dogs. There was presently no proposed scheme of development. The site did not include any Listed Buildings or SAMs, nor did it lie within an Area of Archaeological Importance as defined within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The site remained undeveloped until the construction of Millwall Docks in the mid to late 19th century, when it became occupied by warehouses. The site underwent further major development when two large warehouses were constructed in the 1960s and again with the conversion of one of the warehouses into the London Arena in the 1980s. The construction of the warehouses would have had a major impact on the presence of any earlier human activity on the site, therefore it seemed unlikely that there would be any archaeological implications for any future proposed scheme for the site in question.
