Abstract: |
A baseline cultural heritage assessment was undertaken as part of the overall environmental impact assessment for the proposed redevelopment of the site. The main findings of the assessment were that no buildings were known to have been placed within the development area until the mid 19th century with the present structures dating to the early 20th century. There was a lot of industrial activity along the lower Ouseburn area in the post-medieval period and there was a strong possibility that industrial practices were carried out on the site. Consequently archaeological deposits relating to the medieval and post-medieval periods may have survived within the site. Further archaeological investigation and recording was recommended.
