Abstract: |
Following the grant of a Class 7 Scheduled Monument Consent, three trial trenches with a cumulative length of 11 metres were mechanically excavated within the area of the Scheduled Monument in order to evaluate areas of proposed groundworks associated with extension to the east and west of the Cottage. An undated gully was discovered to the west of the building and chalk and brick masonry was uncovered to the east of the property. An illegally excavated test-hole was also recorded. Topsoil finds from the site included a large assemblage of post-medieval pottery from the 17th to the 19th centuries, and an almost complete medieval floor tiles of 13-14th century origin. [Au] |
