Abstract: |
Nine trial trenches were excavated in advance of the proposed residential redevelopment of the site. A large area towards the centre of the site appeared to have been taken up with quarrying activity. Elsewhere a number of other features were found extending across the site. The majority of the latter were ditches, though pits and post holes were also present. Most of the features appeared to represent high medieval and late medieval activity. Two post-medieval pits were located towards the eastern end of the site. In the north-western sector of the site a possible post hole containing Iron Age pottery was recorded in trench 2. It cut an oval pit which contained a struck and a burnt flint. This in turn cut a ditch. [Au(abr)] |
