Abstract: |
<summary>Excavation of the light well of the medieval vault was undertaken when a protective membrane had to be laid over the footings of the vault, which were suffering from the penetration of ground salts and water. Due to constructional restraints, only a slot trench could be excavated through the base of the light well; it was, however, possible to excavate a small sondage trench adjacent to the light well, in Simnel Street. The light well had been built in 1905 during restoration of the vault by the District Council. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SOU 431 (Southampton City Council, Heritage Management investigation identification no) |
