Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation, including both desktop survey and the hand-excavation of four small trial trenches, was carried out at the northern end of Moat Farmhouse, Brundish Road, Dennington. The desktop survey discovered that the main part of the house had been extensively rebuilt in the late 16th/early 17th century. In addition some refurbishment appeared to have taken place in c.1869 which, in particular, affected the northern end of the building. The trial trenches revealed what appeared to be the redeposited clay subsoil make-up of the moat island. While no evidence for medieval structures or activity was found within the trial trenches three features of more recent date were located. [Au(abr)] |
