Abstract: |
A combination of linear trial trenches and test pits were excavated to evaluate land proposed for development on the site of the former Simson Pimm envelope factory and an adjacent area. A small number of residual sherds of medieval pottery was recoverd from later deposits and were indicative of medieval occupation. The former use of the site as gardens, prior to the construction of the factory, was substantiated by the discovery of a large ornamental fountain. Substantial levelling deposits were found, increasing in depth towards the rear of the site to eradicate the downward slope. [Au(adp)] |
