Abstract: |
Rescue excavations were carried out based on evidence obtained from geophysical and earthwork surveys and evaluative excavations. The work involved the open-area excavation of two trenches. The excavation took place on a medieval moated platform and a second platform to the east. Traces of two 11th-12th century timber buildings were revealed on the moated platform, whilst on the second eastern platform a manorial complex comprising a 13th century aisled-hall with 14th century ancillary additions and evidence for 16th century demolition was found. Both platforms were associated with drainage ditch systems, designed to allow cultivation of the surrounding poorly drained farmland. [Au(abr)] |
