Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during groundwork adjacent to Argos Hill Windmill. The 'winding' track of the windmill was encountered. This was excavated by hand and revealed details of the techniques used in its construction. Two large rectangular shaped pits were excavated and recorded near the centre of the site. These pits contained 19th century refuse, but their location, size and depth may have indicated a previous function with the current windmill. The lack of cross trees or any medieval finds indicated that any previous windmill which may have existed on this site was unlikely to have been medieval. [Au(abr)] |
