Abstract:		 A monitoring visit was made during the excavation of footings for a garage alongside 'The Old Billiard Room'. Interest in the site related to Downhan Hall and associated buildings which once stood on the site. The Old Billiard room and an icehouse were remnants of the Old Hall. The north trench of the footings was dug into natural sand and the eastern and south side trenches were disturbed, probably with debris dating from the demolition of the hall. A feature, predating the demolition, was visible in the west trench and was recorded by section. The east facing section of the west trench revealed a large cut from the south end with various tip lines. This feature cut across an earlier feature which was not bottomed. The large cut was almost certainly associated with the demolition of the Hall. It was suggested that the earlier feature may have been the cut for a drain leading away from the icehouse. This interpretation was entirely consistent with the evidence although it could not be confirmed. [Au(adp)]
