Abstract: |
The site formed part of a historic landscape park established in the 17th and 18th centuries. A large 19th century house formerly stood at the centre of the park but this was demolished in 1985 after a fire, and only the entrance portion remained extant. This assessment examined the archaeological background to the park and house, identifying in particular the location and layout of an earlier 16th-17th century house, and possibly the garden landscape and water features associated with it. Earlier archaeological features included a Roman road, which also survived within the park and the proposed development area. [Au(abr)] |
