Abstract: |
The only definable features of note were gullies of probably later medieval date cut into the boulder clay sub-soil at depths below 3.0m. The character of the archaeologically significant material excavated from the site, largely rotted and compressed organic matter, together with the absence of remains of build structures, suggests that in the medieval period this area formed the back plot to a residential property. The most notable finds were large sherds of later medieval, green-glazed pottery and a well-preserved fragment of a leather sandal or shore, the latter indicating that part of the site had remained waterlogged.
