Abstract: |
The watching brief revealed the entire west wall of the priory church including evidence for a door into the north aisle, the central west door, two pier bases and two in situ medieval floor tiles from the west end of the nave. The south wall of the church was exposed and to the south of that, part of the tiled cloister walk and evidence for steps up to a later west range. The east wall of the south transept was revealed and slight evidence for the west wall also. Burials thought to have been of medieval date were located within the nave and to the south and east of the chancel. Evidence of Bronze Age activity in the form of pottery, worked and fire-cracked-flint was found to the east of the priory church. [Au(abr)] |
