Abstract: |
The proposed development was located in an area of high archaeological sensitivity. The Roman town wall ran through the south-east of the study area, and there were Roman buildings to the north-east within insula IV. Roman deposits were encountered in all of the 7 test pits which were excavated. These deposits were covered with a varying depth of overburden, which ranged from a minimum of 0.13 metres above the town wall rampart on the town wall, to between 0.57 metres and 1.13 metres to the rear of the rampart.
