Abstract: |
During an evaluation at a proposed development site, three Roman features were recorded. Artefacts recovered from these included 1st-2nd century pottery, a fragment of quernstone and a fragment of loomweight. One feature was identified as a ditch; the others may have been separate pits, but each could each have marked a terminal to the ditch. It was concluded that the features could have indicated an occupation site on the north-western side of the evaluation area, and that the Roman remains were probably confined to this side of the proposed building. A watching brief during topsoil and vegetation stripping was recommended. [AIP] |
