Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was undertaken on a trench for a new electricity cable which ran through part of the moat and rampart of York Castle, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The trench was approximately 0.4m wide and 0.4m deep. When investigated, a deposit of sandy loam containing limestone fragments was discovered. This probably resulted from 20th century landscaping of this part of the monument. No datable archaeological material was recovered. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers: {italoff}1990.1001 (YAT investigation identification no) |
