Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site. Artefacts dating from the Palaeolithic to the post-medieval period had been found in the surrounding area, including a number recovered from the River Thames. During the evaluation, nine prehistoric struck flints were recovered, one of which dated from the Mesolithic/Early Neolithic. Twelve sherds of pottery dating from early medieval to post-medieval times were also found. Post-medieval walls and building rubble which may have related to Ditton Lodge, a post-medieval house demolished in the 1950s or later, were noted, and the remains of a demolished bomb shelter were found. It was concluded that very little of archaeological significance was present at the site. [AIP] |
