Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological monitoring during groundwork associated with the replacement of a dwelling at Greystones Bungalow, Bourton-on-the-Water. Greystones Farm was located within Salmonsbury Camp, a Scheduled Monument (SM 32392). An archaeological evaluation of the site in 2001 recorded two small features to the south of the original bungalow and one feature to the north. It was concluded that these features represented undated post holes or undulations in the natural gravel. The archaeological monitoring restricted the groundwork to a level above the archaeological deposits recorded during the evaluation to ensure its continued preservation. Limited excavation was permitted for the installation of a septic tank to the back of the house and four soakaways, two each at the front and rear. During the excavation for these, several undated archaeological features were recorded. None of the features contained any datable finds. [Au(abr)] |
