Abstract: |
A small excavation was undertaken in advance of the construction of a new room at the United Reformed Church on Whiting Street to replace part of the existing Church Hall, suffering from subsidence. This revealed post medieval disturbance under the West end of the demolished building and a small flint and mortar wall into the central partition footing. The wall appeared to be associated with a pit containing brown loam and building debris and was probably late medieval. No medieval ground layers or rubbish pits were identified but evidence of limited medieval occupation was uncovered. Pottery of 12th to 18th century was recovered. [Au(abr)] |
