Abstract: |
The evaluation was successful in identifying a large linear feature, which may have represented the western line of Gloucesters 17th century defences. The evaluation also identified significant modern dumped deposits, probably dating from the late 18th century onward, together with possible dredging activity, along the northern part of the proposed bypass route. At the northern extent of the route, the evaluation may also have encountered the Hereford & Gloucester Canal, dating from the end of the 18th century. The results also demonstrated the paucity of significant archaeological deposits along the southern part of the evaluated area. [Au] |
