Abstract: |
In April 1994 the excavation of a trench for a new gas supply to The Old Rectory, Manor Court Road, Nuneaton was observed by staff of the Warwickshire Museum. The site lies within the precinct of Nuneaton Priory, parts of which are a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Warwickshire Monument No. 17005), and the archaeological observation was a condition of the Scheduled Monument Consent for the trench (Ref HSD 9/2/635 Pt. 8 of 24 March 1994). A series of monastic demolition layers were recorded, along with two possible robber trenches of walls of the west range. Finds included a few fragments of floor tile and larger quantities of roof tiles and slate.[AIP] |
