Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken on various repairs and consolidation works to the Vaulted Chambers. The Vaulted Chambers were thought to have been the entrance to the King's Hall, and consisted of two rooms of medieval date, known respectively as the Porch and North Chamber: these were the castle's only standing buildings. The buildings had been extensively 'restored' since the Second World War and incorporated into Castle Park. The works exposed many of the building's architectural features enabling additional information to be gathered about the architectural development of the structure. [Au] |
