Abstract: |
Archaeological observation during the excavation of a service trench to the east of Priory Farm revealed layers containing large amounts of roof tile, occasional stone slates, a medieval floor tile and 13th-15th century pottery. A limestone wall running approximately north-south was also revealed beneath this layer. Several sherds of pottery dating from the 13th-19th centuries were recovered from the topsoil. The wall foundation was likely to have represented the remains of a medieval building associated with the former Augustinian Priory. The roof tile and associated debris represented evidence of the disuse and demolition of this and nearby buildings. [Au(abr)] |
