Abstract: |
An archaeological investigation and watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a number of houses and a block of flats. The investigations revealed sections of substantial and well-preserved remains of a large farm/manor house and associated landscape, dating most likely to the late 15th-late 18th centuries. Elements of the underlying stratigraphy were also examined which suggested that during the earlier medieval period the area had been under cultivation. No evidence was found for occupation or activity on the site prior to this period. [Au] |
