Abstract: |
The area of the route passed through or close to some areas of concentrated known archaeological sites and areas of high archaeological potential. The most sensitive areas were: the environs of Whiteley Hill, Herts (HCC SMR 2401) which contained the cropmarks of several probable ploughed out Bronze Age barrows and other features; an area of cropmarks, probably of several periods between Great and Little Chishill, Cambs (CCC SMR 09756); an area of cropmarks again multi-period, to the north and east of Monkshole Wood, Essex (ECC SMR 17276); the site of a post-medieval windmill at Mill House, Wenden Lofts (ECC SMR 3936); and the point where the route crossed the line of a Roman road (ECC SMR 3890), northeast of Rockells Wood, Essex.
