Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was undertaken during the excavation of eight non-archaeological trial-holes. This work formed part of a soil contamination and geotechnical survey undertaken in connection with an outline application to redevelop the site. No archaeological features were noted, but this may have been due to the search method adopted, which only permitted identification of the obvious. However, evidence of the foreshore of the River Itchen prior to land reclamation in the 19th century was revealed. Modern deposits overlay silty clays and natural clays. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SOU 521 (Southampton City Council, Heritage Management investigation identification no) |
