Abstract: |
<summary>A single adult cremation was revealed to the south of Hoarstone Farm during construction of a new water-main on behalf of Severn Trent Water, running from Trimpley to Blackstone in the north of the county. The cremation was buried in a small hollow adjacent to a large pit. Dating evidence was poor and consequently radiocarbon dating was undertaken; this indicated a date for the cremation falling between 663 and 773 AD. Cremations of this date had not previously been found this far west in the area. Since this date range falls within the 5th to 8th centuries, a poorly understood period of political, social and cultural change, the find is regarded as being of considerable importance. {italon}Au(abr){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} HWCM15302 |
