Abstract: |
<summary>A resistivity survey was undertaken, and test-pits excavated, in response to a request to re-surface and landscape the land around the Abbey (this included ground level reduction). A number of pits were excavated on the south and east sides, where documentary evidence indicated the presence of the canons' cemetery, chapels, housing and more modern building remains. The excavations revealed badly-disturbed ground containing unstratified bone for the top 400mm. Below this, intact archaeological layers containing stratified human remains were exposed. A trench on the south side also contained a cobbled layer at about 400mm, with unstratified bone above. {italon}Sec(abr)(11b){italoff}{spacea} |
